Guest lecture by Sir Jim Skea “Climate Change in 2025: What science is telling us”

On Tuesday, May 13, we had the pleasure and honour of hosting a guest lecture on the latest scientific evidence on climate change, by the Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Sir Jim Skea, at the National Technical University of Athens.

In a room full of excited students, academics, and researchers from NTUA and other universities, as well as NGOs, think tanks, and media, Jim presented the role and processes of the IPCC, discussed the three goals of the Paris Agreement vis-à-vis the work of the three Working Groups and the latest findings of the 6th Assessment Report (AR6), and delved into the structure and outlines of the 7th Assessment Cycle (AR7).

Prof. John Psarras (Director of DSS Lab, EPU-NTUA & ICCS - NTUA ) opened the event with a few words on our Unit’s research in climate change and the important role of operational research in climate policy support.

Dr. Christos GIANNAKOPOULOS (Research Director of IERSD, National Observatory of Athens), with whom we had the pleasure of co-organising this series of events with Jim throughout last week, then shared a few notes on his Unit’s research efforts in climate change and, as the IPCC’s Focal Point in Greece, introduced Prof. Skea to the audience.
